Halloween Designs

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.  It’s so fun to think up scary and creepy things to bedeck my house with.  I have such fun with it!  Here are some of the sign designs I’m working on or already have completed:

  • The Mr. and Mrs. Skeleton set glows in the dark, but is really at it’s best under a black light. They each measure 7″ x 8″
  • The Batty Welcome also glows in the dark, but is very bright and eye catching under a black light.  Measures 7″ x 12″
  • The All Hallows Eve mini has a cute orange bow, and the cat silhouette mini is glittery as can be.  Each measures 3.5″ x 6″
  • Tricks and Treats is black and orange text on off white background. 3.5″ x 6″
  • The Skull on Purple is pretty straight forward, but adds a nice touch to Halloween decor.  Measures 7″ x 8″

All of these designs can be found on my Etsy shop.  Of course there are more in the works….so stay tuned!

How My Insecurities Held Me Back

I make signs, it’s what I do.  What you don’t know is that I kept that secret from every person I know who doesn’t live in my house.  Nobody knew.  Not even my own mother.

I was so afraid that someone I knew wouldn’t think they were good enough, or would say something negative.  I thought SO LITTLE of myself and my work that I couldn’t see that it just doesn’t matter what one person might think.  The next person might think it’s great and order a sign or offer a compliment.  The secret to starting a creative business is to keep those compliments in a little compartment and bring them out between sales to keep yourself going!  Ha!  My friends and family aren’t negative people by any stretch of the imagination so I don’t know what I might have been scared of.

The conclusion I came to was that I was afraid of my own insecurities being thrown in my face.  I thought that I wasn’t good enough.  I thought my work was lacking.  I thought nobody would want to buy anything I made.  I thought all of these negative things…..nobody else did.  As a matter of fact, once I let my friends and family know about my business…..they started complimenting me, they started ordering from me, they cheered me on, and they helped my insecurities disappear.

My mother shares every single post I make on Facebook with her friends.  Every single one!  Friends I haven’t spoken to in years have asked for some pretty awesome custom orders.  I’ve branched out and become more confident because of them.  It was amazing.  It continues to be amazing.

By stepping out of my comfort zone, by putting myself “out there” and in a vulnerable place, I was rewarded.  If you have a creative business or are thinking about starting one, I urge you to start with the support of your friends and family.  Let them reap the benefits of your first projects, so you can get better and perfect your craft.  They get it for a cheap price, you get better, you get to fill up your portfolio with photos of your work too!

Butterfly Sign & Rag Banner Set

This one is for my niece, and it’s the first rag banner I have ever made.

First, they are SO much work.  Second, they are SO much cuteness!  I am really proud of how well this set turned out and I think I will definitely be listing them on Etsy shop today as a custom order.  I will have to think up a couple different themes for the sign, and some boy themes too.

This sign is 12″x 12″ and the rag banner is 5 foot in length and approximately 8 inches “tall” with 10 pompoms.

UPDATE:  This set is now available for purchase here.
